To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what regulations cover the searching of prison visitors.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Rule 86(1) of the prison rules 1964 and rule 70(1) of the young offender institution rules 1988 provide that any person entering or leaving an establishment may be searched.
