To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what progress his Department has made in encouraging parents to become school governors.

36. Mr. Hind

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the number of schools which have established governing bodies containing parent governors as required by the Education Reform Act.

Mrs. Rumbold

A recent survey for the Department suggests that more than 99 per cent. of parent governor places at county and maintained special schools have been filled.
