To ask the Secretary of State for Employment whether he has any plans to relocate staff of his Department to Runcorn; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Cope

The Employment Department, in common with other Departments, has been conducting a study into the potential for moving posts out of London and the south east. The study is nearing completion and we expect to announce its conclusions and our decisions to the House shortly. At present 27 per cent. of Employment Department head office staff are located in Runcorn.
