§ Mr. SteenTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what funds are available for the training of teachers in the new national curriculum; what are his plans to help already trained teachers with in-house training; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. RumboldSpecific grants are available for additional expenditure by local education authorities to support the introduction of the national curriculum, including in-service training for teachers. These will support £100 million expenditure in 1989–90. We have allowed schools two extra closure days for training, and the National Curriculum Council has provided advice and training materials.
