HC Deb 27 July 1989 vol 157 cc854-5W
Mr. Maginnis

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many soldiers were released for other duties as a result of dismantling Lacky bridge permanent vehicle checkpoint.

Mr. Cope

Although I am not prepared to give specific information about the number of troops involved in particular tasks, the removal of the permanent vehicle checkpoint will mean a useful addition to the number of soldiers available for other duties in the Lacky bridge area, and will allow them to operate in a more flexible, mobile and unpredictable manner.
