To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what is the industry forecast for future electricity generating capacity before the year 2000.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The final year of the load forecast which the electricity supply industry (England and Wales) adopted in October 1988 is 1997–98. The forecast of unrestricted demand for that year is 56.5 GW.
