To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the names of his regional panels, the names of the people represented on each panel, their occupations and the interest they represent; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ryder

The five regional panels in England are non-statutory bodies which help to ensure that the ministry and the farming industry are each aware of the other's attitudes and policies and to hear representations against decisions by officials. Membership of the regional panels is drawn mainly from farmers, farmworkers and landowners. Membership is undertaken in a personal capacity. Regional panel members do not act in a representational capacity for any organisation to which they may belong.

There is an agriculture advisory panel for Wales which fulfils the same functions; this is the responsibility of the Secretary of State for Wales.
