§ Mr. Tom KingOver recent months we have been exploring with politicians and others their ideas about how local elected representatives might be more fully involved in the administration of Northern Ireland. These discussions are continuing and I hope that the political parties will also discuss their ideas together.
§ 13. Sir Michael McNair-WilsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what inquiries into the efficiency and powers of the local government of the Province have taken place since the MacCrory report.
14. Mr. AdamsTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when he intends to proceed with changes in the operation of local government in Northern Ireland.
§ 21. Mr. McCartneyTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on his plans for local government in Northern Ireland.
§ Mr. NeedhamTwo efficiency studies covering energy management and the provision of leisure services have been undertaken recently. Proposals for improving the general efficiency and effectiveness of local government were published last November. We are now considering 60 or so responses.
