HL Deb 20 July 1989 vol 510 c1028WA
Lord Graham of Edmonton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will publish the criteria used to clarify self-mutilation or attempted suicides in Leeds Prison and who is responsible for the classification of each incident.

Earl Ferrers

Prison medical officers are asked to distinguish acts of non-fatal injury which are considered to have been committed with suicidal intent from those which appear not to have been so motivated. The categorisation of individual cases is a matter for clinical judgement on the part of the doctor.
