To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the visit to North America by his hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State.

Mr. Hurd

My hon. Friend's recent valuable visit to the United States and the Bahamas provided graphic evidence of the destructive effects on individuals and the community of widespread misuse of and trafficking in cocaine and crack. He studied both means of enforcement and of reducing demand. We already have in place a comprehensive strategy for tackling misuse. The ministerial group on the misuse of drugs is considering urgently how this strategy can be strengthened and extended.
