77. Mr. Vaz

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the current delays in preparing explanatory statements for refusal of entry clearance in(a) Bombay and (b) Islamabad.

Mr. Eggar

On average, explanatory statements are prepared and forwarded to the appellate authorities within three months of receipt of an appeal in Bombay and within four to six weeks in Islamabad.

Individual cases may take longer, depending on what further inquiries the entry clearance officer needs to make in the light of the grounds for appeal.
