Mr. Stern

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy, pursuant to his reply of 26 June,Official Report, column 350, on the extent of the cost to public funds of the Hinkley Point C inquiry, if he will state (a) the best estimate given to him to date by the Central Electricity Generating Board of the costs of the inquiry borne or to be borne by it and (b) his assessment of the costs so far incurred by local authorities.

The costs incurred by the CEGB are a matter for them. I have asked the chairman of the board to write to my hon. Friend.
