To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when he next expects to meet the EEC counterparts to discuss European air fares; and if he will make a statement on competition between European airlines.

I understand that the French Presidency plans to hold a meeting of EC Transport Ministers on aviation issues in the autumn.

We shall be pressing for further liberalisation, which by increasing competition will lead to lower fares.
