To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will indicate the increase in the number of general practitioners since 1979.

The number of general medical practitioners in Scotland has risen from 2,921 in 1979 to 3,353 (provisional) in 1988. The corresponding figures for general dental practitioners are 1,204 and 1,523 (provisional).
