To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will give the latest figures for the number of schools requesting grant-maintained status.

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement indicating the number of schools which have opted for grant-maintained status and the number of schools which are considering seeking grant-maintained status.

Mrs. Rumbold

To date, parents of pupils at 47 schools have voted to apply for grant-maintained status, and my right hon. Friend has approved 20 formal applications. I expect a good many more to follow.
