HL Deb 03 July 1989 vol 509 c1056WA
Lord Brougham and Vaux

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When Abell House in John Islip Street, SW1, was occupied; why it has just been washed down by hand; and how much this operation cost.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Hesketh)

Subsequent to refurbishment, Abell House was occupied by the Home Office on 28th May 1985. Hand cleaning is necessary to preserve the highly polished granite cladding from progressive deterioration. The final cost of the operation is estimated at £27,000, plus VAT.
