HC Deb 30 January 1989 vol 146 cc49-50W
Mr. Shersby

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what discussions he has had or proposes to have with the Civil Aviation Authority concerning the safety in use of twin-engined jet aircraft on transatlantic crossings; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The Civil Aviation Authority has the statutory responsibility for the safety regulation of civil aviation.

I am advised that the safety record of extended range operations by twin-engined aircraft is such that there has been no need for discussions with the CAA.
