To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will make a statement on the future of the export promotion levy, following representations from the woollen industry.

I refer to the answer given to the hon. Member for Bradford, West (Mr. Madden) on 8 December 1988 at columns262–63. I am still receiving representations about the future of the wool textile industry (export promotion) levy under the consultation process which is due to end on 31 January. I shall ensure that all views received will be taken carefully into account before a decision is taken on the future of this statutory levy.
