HC Deb 24 January 1989 vol 145 c469W
Mr. Gordon Brown

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is his provision for the urban programme for 1988–89 and for the next three years at cash prices and at 1987–88 constant prices.

Mr. Portillo

The Department of Transport's cash provision for the urban programme in 1988–89 and each of the succeeding three years is £11 million. This is £10 million per annum at 1987–88 constant prices.

In addition to the urban programme works, which are administered by the Department of the Environment, urban areas receive substantial benefit from the Department of Transport's other programmes, including those for trunk road construction, local authority roads and public transport.
