HC Deb 19 January 1989 vol 145 c298W
Mr. Ian Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what discretion is allowed to regional health authorities in determining clinical and nursing salary scales.

Mr. Mellor

The salaries of nurses employed in the National Health Service are determined by reference to national salary scales, with appropriate supplements for staff working in London. These are set in the light of the recommendations of the independent nurses pay review body and health authorities currently have no discretion to vary these salary scales.
