To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what is his policy on the education of under-fives; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he has any plans for earmarked grants for the development of education for the under-fives; and if he will make a statement.

My right hon. Friend has no plans affecting the funding arrangements for the education of the under-fives. The Government will make a full statement of its policies on the education of the under-fives when responding to the report of the Education, Science and Arts Committee on educational provision for the under-fives, published on 11 January.
