HC Deb 19 January 1989 vol 145 c307W
13. Dr. Moonie

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on his Department's programme of microbiological research into food produced in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Ryder

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food undertakes an extensive programme of research in food microbiology, hygiene related methodology development, costing about £1.9 million in the current financial year. The research is carried out at many establishments including universities, the Food Research Institute, and research associations. The programme of research is aimed at improving the safety and quality of food for the community. A list of individual projects within this programme has already been given in my reply of 22 December 1988 to the right hon. Member for Stoke-on-Trent, South (Mr. Ashley).
