§ Mr. Tony BanksTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, pursuant to his reply of 12 December,Official Report, column 410, if he will identify areas of 153W London where drinking water supplies have, at any time, exceeded standards set in the European Community drinking water directive in each of the last three years; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Moynihan[holding answer 10 Janauary 1989]Some 250,000 analyses a year are carried out in the London area by the Thames water authority and occasionally an analysis will indicate that a standard has been exceeded. This is because of the inherent variability in the nature of water and its supply and the stringency of the standards.
