To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what percentage of road accidents occur on motorways.

In Great Britain during 1987, 2 per cent. of all road accidents and 5 per cent. of fatal accidents, occurred on motorways. For comparison, motorways carried 15 per cent. of all traffic in 1987.
