§ Mr. McLeishTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the total capital expenditure for(a) primary, (b) secondary and (c) further education in each of the years from 1979 to the latest date for which information is available, in cash and real terms.
§ Mr. Michael ForsythThe information available is given in the following table, which has been compiled from local authority capital payment returns. Expenditure on primary and secondary schools is not separately identified in these returns. The reduction in expenditure in real terms during the period reflects a substantial and progressive decline in pupil numbers.
