To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what recent assessment he has made of the implications for the level of vandalism and violence on buses of the increase in the proportion of one-person operated buses.

Mr. Portillo

While there is probably no simple correlation between vandalism and violence and the type of vehicle operated, recent research on assaults on bus crews indicates that there is less risk of violence on one-person operated buses.
