To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what regard he has paid to the opinion of the organised teaching professions in shaping his policies on schools and education in Scotland.

[holding answer 27 February 1989]: I am always prepared to take account of the views of teachers' organisations when formulating policies for education in Scotland.

I have been particularly pleased to see the EIS ending its opposition to school boards.
