To ask the Attorney-General what is the ratio of staff to applications for the Land Registry by districts.

The Attorney-General

The following table indicates the ratio of staff in post at 1 February 1989 to the average daily number of applications of all kinds, received at each district registry.

It should be noted that some offices, particularly those in the south-east, have assistance from other offices. This is not reflected in the figures given as the level of assistance varies regularly to meet changing circumstances.

To ask the Attorney-General what extra resources have been made available for the Land Registry, to meet the increased activity in the property market and the backlog of applications.

The Attorney-General

An additional 1,245 posts were approved at the beginning of the current financial year. A further 900 posts were approved in August.

1,400 additional posts have been approved in the public expenditure survey White Paper for the next financial year.
