§ 73. Mr. McAllion
To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he is taking to prepare industry in Scotland for the advent of the single European market in 1992.
§ Mr. Lang
In addition to the Government's "Europe Open for Business" campaign which covers the whole of the United Kingdom, my Department is working closely with the Scottish Development Agency, enterprise trusts, 213W chambers of commerce, and other organisations in Scotland, and both Ministers and officials are taking part in an extensive series of seminars and business meetings throughout Scotland. My right hon. and learned Friend has also established the single market committee of the Scottish Economic Council to examine the impact of the Single Market on the economy of Scotland and to submit proposals to encourage those concerned to prepare for it. Our aim is to ensure that every sector of industry and commerce in Scotland is fully prepared for the challenges and opportunities which the single market will present.
