Net direct investment by Japanese companies in the United Kingdom was £51 million in 1979, £170 million in 1983 and £15 million in 1986, the latest year for which figures are available. Japanese direct investment accounted for 3 per cent., 8 per cent. and ½ per cent. respectively, of total net inward direct investment in those years.
