HC Deb 13 February 1989 vol 147 c9W
78. Mr. Spearing

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps he is taking to ensure co-operation between the Overseas Development Natural Resources Institute and national institutions concerned with pest control.

Mr. Chris Patten

The ODNRI has a long history of collaboration with centres of pest expertise in Britain and abroad. The role of such links is carefully considered when customer divisions in the ODA commission work from the institute. The £7 million special programme to support pest control in Africa, on which I instructed the institute to embark in 1987, is an excellent example. Under it the ODNRI is collaborating with eight institutions in Britain and 12 in developing countries.
