What grants were made from public funds in the year 1987–88 for the promotion of co-operatives in respect of the co-operative development division of Food From Britain, the Housing Corporation and the Co-operative Development Agency.
§ Lord Young of GraffhamIn 1987–88 payment of non-capital grant towards formation and initial management costs of agricultural and horticultural co-operatives and producer organisations in the United Kingdom totalled £933,284. In addition grant-in-aid of £2,063,000 was paid to the Cooperative Development Division of Food From Britain to cover not only their advisory and promotional activities but also their overall administration costs of co-operation grant schemes.
In 1987–88 the Housing Corporation made grants totalling £130,000 under Section 87 of the Housing Associations Act to encourage, promote and advise on the formation of housing co-operatives.
In the same year grants of £200,000 for general co-operative development, and £40,000 to promote the development of marketing co-operatives, were paid to the Co-operative Development Agency. The agency also managed inner city Task Force funds of £200,000 applied to the Middlesborough Cooperative Initiative.
