§ Mr. FlynnTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence what has been the cost, in each year at 1989 prices, since the commencement of the Military Atomic Energy programme began, of cleaning up radioactive contamination from accidents, leaks or routine operation at(a) AWE Aldermaston, (b) AERE Harwell, (c) AWE Burghfield, (d) AWE Caerwent, (e) Royal Naval shipyard, Chatham, (f) Royal Naval shipyard Rosyth, (g) Royal Naval shipyard Coulport, (h) Royal Naval shipyard Devonport, and (i) Royal Naval shipyard Portsmouth; and if he will make a statement on present progress in the environmental clean-up programme.
§ Mr. SainsburyThere has never been an accident or leak at a United Kingdom naval or AWE establishment which has required a major remedial radioactive decontamination programme or has resulted in any need to decontaminate the public environment.
