To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress has been made towards a Council of Europe convention on broadcasting.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has any plans to meet the chairman of the Independent Broadcasting Authority to discuss the White Paper on the future of broadcasting.

Mr. Renton

My right hon. Friend met Mr. Russell on 10 January and my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister met him on 17 January to discuss our recent White Paper on broadcasting. My right hon. Friend keeps in regular touch with the chairmen of the BBC and IBA on a wide range of broadcasting matters.
