§ 36. Mr. RiddickTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has any plans to meet the general secretary of the Scottish Trades Union Congress; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. LangI met the general council of the Scottish Trades Union Congress on 27 January. I drew its attention to the impressive performance of the Scottish economy in 1988, which saw major advances in manufacturing, construction and services; continuing successes in inward investment; a fall of 42,000 in seasonally-adjusted unemployment; and evidence of increased business optimism and investment intentions.
