HL Deb 21 December 1989 vol 514 cc398-9WA
Earl Russell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have abandoned plans for the Western Environmental Improvement Route.

Viscount Davidson

No. Following publication of the consultant's report on Stage 2 of the West London Assessment Study, comments have been invited by the Department of Transport on its published proposal for the Western Environmental Improvement Route (WEIR), with a link along Townmead Road to Wandsworth Bridge, and an alternative version of WEIR which could continue across a new Thames bridge to York Road, in place of the Townmead Road link.

My right honourable friend aims to decide which, if any, of these schemes should go forward after he has considered all representations received by 28th February next year.
