§ Mr. Thurnham
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the conference held between ambassadors of the four occupying powers of Berlin on 11 December 1989.
§ Mr. Maude
At Soviet suggestion, the three western ambassadors met the Soviet ambassador on 11 December. Discussion focussed on western proposals, originally presented to the Russians in 1987, for a package of improvements for Berlin. The Soviet ambassador made some more general remarks about developments in Europe. All parties agreed on the importance of stability.
