HC Deb 18 December 1989 vol 164 cc62-3W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the numbers and percentages of the unemployed totals removed from all Welsh unemployed registers as a result of changes that took effect in August in the redundant mineworkers payments scheme.

Mr. Peter Walker

Latest estimates suggest that in Wales about 500 miners have decided to take advantage of the change in the redundant mineworkers payment scheme. It is of course entirely optional for the redundant mineworkers to decide whether or not to register as unemployed.
