HC Deb 18 December 1989 vol 164 c85W
Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how much money has been spent on publicising and implementing the Government's plans for the National Health Service prior to the Second Reading of the National Health Service and Community Care Bill: and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

The estimated cost of informing the public about the Government's plans to improve the Health Service is £450,000. A further £2,110,000 is estimated to have been spent on informing people working for the NHS. £85 million has been allocated to assist the implementation of the proposals in the financial year 1989–90. It is not possible to distinguish expenditure made before the Second Reading of the National Health Service and Community Care Bill.
