To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food pursuant to his answer to the hon. Member for Caerphilly, of 6 December,Official Report, column 248, on what grounds the veterinary products committee recommended refusal of porcine somatotropin.

§ Mr. Maclean
The veterinary products committee recommendation was based on its consideration of the data available at the time and submitted by the company. These did not show that the porcine somatotropin product concerned met the criteria for the issue of an animal test certificate.

Yes. In the event, the applicant company chose not to pursue the matter and withdrew its application.
