HL Deb 06 December 1989 vol 513 c968WA
Lord Williams of Elvel

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they received any advice from their financial advisers warning them that nuclear power was unsaleable during the past year and, if so, when such advice was received.

Viscount Ullswater

The Government have received commercially confidential advice from their financial advisers as the electricity privatisation programme has proceeded. As the Secretary of State for Energy explained in his statement of 9th November in another place, the Government decided to retain nuclear power within the public sector after balancing the interests of the taxpayer, the consumer and the shareholder.
