HC Deb 06 December 1989 vol 163 c302W
Mr. Meale

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what steps he is taking to monitor the shareholders of major bookmakers in Satellite Information Services.

Mr. Forth

For the purposes of the Telecommunications Act 1984, the licence for the provision of satellite telecommunication services granted to Satellite Information Services Ltd. on 16 October 1989 requires it to notify the Secretary of State when shares representing more than 20 per cent. of the voting rights in the company are acquired by any person, and subsequently should further acquisitions bring this holding to more than 30 per cent. and more than 50 per cent. No such justification has been received.

The company is also required to provide information under the Companies Act 1985 in the usual manner.
