Earl FerrersThe latest available figures on vehicle speeds are contained in the Department of Transport's Statistical Bulletin (88)30National Speed Survey 1987, which was published on 1st February 1988. A copy of the bulletin is in the Library.
The Government and the police are committed to the effective enforcement of speed limits. In 1988, there were 166,129 successful prosecutions for speed limit offences. A further 341,765 offences were dealt with by fixed penalty.
