§ Mr. Norman Lamont[holding answer 4 December 1989]: Figures for United Kingdom manufacturing companies' investment in research and development from 1978 to 1987 are included in the relevant aggregates of intramural expenditure on research and development carried out in United Kingdom industry which were published in British Business on 3 February 1989, a copy of which is available in the Library.
Figures for 1979 are not available. 1987 is the latest year for which figures are published.
