HC Deb 21 April 1989 vol 151 c311W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Prime Minister whether Her Majesty's Government propose to change their current policy of prohibiting the export to Iraq of any weapon which could enhance its offensive capability, or will agree to granting export licences for the supply of weaponry to Iraq, to accommodate United Kingdom exhibitors at the first Baghdad international exhibition for military procurement; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

The Government have not changed their policy on defence sales to Iraq. Applications for export licences continue to be considered on a case-by-case basis, according to the guidelines as announced in the House by the Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary on 29 October 1985 at column454, and in the light of developments in the peace negotiations with Iran.
