HL Deb 18 April 1989 vol 506 c763WA
Lord Brougham and Vaux

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they are taking to publicise 40 years of peace through NATO by, for example, the use of postal slogans.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Lord Glenarthur)

We are publicising 40 years of peace through NATO in a variety of ways. A postal slogan was used by the Post Office between 28th March and 11th April. It appeared on some 46 million items of mail. A flag-raising ceremony was held at Northwood, headquarters of the NATO Commander-in-Chief for the Channel, on 4th April. An exhibition celebrating 40 years of NATO will be touring the country during the next few months; and a panal of NATO experts are giving public briefings. There will also be a NATO item in the Royal Tournament.
