To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) what discussions he has had with Hoechst about the use of vaccines to control clostridia and pasteurella and the potential link with the deaths of sheep and lambs; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he will make a statement about the results of his investigations into the use of vaccines to control clostridia and pasteurella and the potential link with the deaths of sheep and lambs.

Two applications for product licences for BST products have been referred to the Committee for Veterinary Medicinal Products, in September and November 1987. The committee has not yet adopted an opinion on either.
