HC Deb 04 April 1989 vol 150 c173W
Ms. Short

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security in what circumstances single parents in receipt of income support have to make themselves available for work; and whether he has any plans to require that single parents in receipt of income support whose youngest child reaches the age of 12 years will have to make themselves available for work.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

Single parents claiming income support have to be available for work only if there is no child under 16 living as a member of the household. We have no plans to change that.
