HC Deb 04 April 1989 vol 150 c45W
Mr. Gordon Brown

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if his Department will provide an estimate of how many food colours at present in use in Britain are not listed in United Kingdom regulations.

Mr. Ryder

No food sold may contain any colouring matter other than a colouring matter permitted by the Colouring Matter in Food Regulations 1973, as amended. Enforcement of the regulations is a matter for local authorities. I am not aware of any reports of non-permitted colouring matter being used in food.
