§ Lord Rippon of Hexhamasked Her Majesty's Government:
What action they are taking to protect New Zealand's exports of butter to the United Kingdom and what is their reaction to the proposals by the European Commission to make progressive reductions in these exports.
§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Baroness Trumpington)We have made it clear that we want to see a reasonable continuation of New Zealand butter imports which takes account of trends in the home market and the fact that UK butter consumption is declining. The Government believes that the Commission proposal represents a reasonable balance between the interests of all involved.
